Do you ever feel like you're too messy for God to love you?
In John 8:1-11 we learn the story of the woman caught in the act of adultery. Now the Bible doesn't say she was suspected to be having an affair. It doesn't say that it was presumed that she was having a sinful relationship with another man other than her Husband. It says that she was "CAUGHT IN THE ACT". So not only was she doing it, but it was actually witnessed by others. The punishment for such a sin, back in that day, was death. Not just a quick death, but a painful, violent death, stoning. So when the leaders brought the lady to Jesus to confirm by His judgment of her, to their unexpected surprise, Jesus didn't shame her, didn't punish her, nor did He condemn her. He reminded them that they were no different than she was, messy and in need of a Savior, too. Now I don't know if he did this or not, but in my mind I picture Jesus, calm, gentle and patient, reaching out His hand to help her out of the dirt and drying her tears as she shook in fear of what had almost happened to her, and lovingly looking her in her eyes. God's word says that Jesus, 💯 man and 💯 God, simply told her to look around and see where her accusers were. They had scattered and it was just her and the Lord. Then He told her she was forgiven and to go and sin no more. Period. No two hour lecture. No belittling or fussing. No name calling, no condemning...but only love poured out of the heart and mouth of God. Was she messy? Yes she was. But did her messy decisions, messy behavior and messy past keep God from loving her? Absolutely not!!! What it did do was open her eyes and her heart to the love and grace and mercy of the Savior.
So whatever your mess may be, Jesus simply wants you to come to Him, humbling yourself at His feet. He's not mad at you! He is compassionate and loving and kind, and because He loves you so much, He wants to give you the same grace and forgiveness as He gave that lady. When He looks into your eyes He doesn't see you the way you see you. He sees you the way He created you...beautiful in His sight. He loves you...messy and all!!!!!
Love,
Pam Seay
